Loren Falkenberg

Loren’s Biography

Loren Falkenberg is retired from the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business where she taught decision making, negotiations, business ethics and corporate governance for over 35 years. She was the Senior Associate Dean (Graduate and Professional Programs) and led the development of the Doctor of Business Administration and the Master of Management degrees for the business school. Loren is currently an Academic Director for the Directors Education Program offered through the Institute of Corporate Directors. She is responsible for the sessions on crown corporation boards, Indigenous partnerships, decision making, effective meetings and ethics. 

Loren is also an experienced facilitator, having facilitated strategic planning sessions for multiple organizations, including the Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation, the Sobey School of Business at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, and the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta. She led the University of Calgary strategic planning processes in 2011 and 2016 and received the Order of the University of Calgary for that work. Loren also co-facilitated contract negotiations between Alberta Health and the Alberta Medical Association in 2013.

Early in her career, Loren consulted with Talisman Energy for three years in initiating and implementing their corporate social responsibility program. She has a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Queen’s University. She has published in academic and professional journals and won multiple research awards. She recently co-authored, with former University of Calgary President Elizabeth Cannon, a book titled Strategic University Management: Future-Proofing Your Institution

Loren has chaired or served on numerous boards, including the Calgary Winter Club, the City of Calgary Economic Resilience Task Force, the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Engagement Subcommittee, the Calgary Parking Authority, and Calgary Meals on Wheels.
