Depot Closure: Elk Point Universal Bottle Depot

January 24, 2025

Effective immediately, Elk Point Universal Bottle Depot has ceased operations as the Depot no longer holds a valid permit to operate.

The Beverage Container Management Board (BCMB) is committed to ensuring reliable, consistent, and accessible beverage container recycling service for all Albertans. To address this, the BCMB will be seeking approval to initiate a Request for Applications (RFA) process to site a new bottle depot in the Elk Point area.

Information on Depot ownership—including the RFA for Elk Point, other RFAs, and guidance on purchasing an existing Depot or applying to open a new one—can be found under the ’Opening a Depot’ tab, or found here.

The process to establish a new Depot can take considerable time. In the interim, the BCMB encourages Elk Point residents to return empty beverage containers for refund at alternative depot locations:

  • Dove Centre Bottle Depot located at 6201 52 Ave in Bonnyville, AB
  • St. Paul Bottle Depot located at 4702 52 Ave in St. Paul, AB
  • Clandonald Bottle Depot located at 107 Railway Ave in Clandonald, AB

You can find other depot locations, as well as their hours of operation, on the Alberta Depot website.
