The Beverage Container Management Board (BCMB) is Alberta’s beverage container recycling system regulator. BCMB works with stakeholders across the province to ensure the effective, efficient and sustainable collection and recycling of beverage containers.

Edmonton – Today, the Beverage Container Management Board (BCMB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Emsden as its new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).  

Mr. Emsden, an experienced and trusted internal leader, has served in several key roles within BCMB over the past five years, most recently as Director of Operations and Compliance, and Complaints Director. His deep understanding of the organization, his commitment to beverage container recycling, and regulatory excellence make him ideally suited to lead BCMB into its next phase. 

Reporting to the Board of Directors, Mr. Emsden will lead BCMB’s exceptional team in advancing the organization’s mission to deliver a world-class beverage container recycling system for Albertans. His focus will be on strengthening relationships with stakeholders, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring the system continues to serve Albertans effectively and sustainably. 

Mark’s appointment is a testament to the strong internal talent within BCMB. Having worked closely with him, the Board has full confidence in his leadership, his integrity, and his ability to effectively guide our dedicated team,” said Loren Falkenberg, BCMB Board Chair.

Mr. Emsden’s appointment is effective April 7, 2025.
