Nicholas  Kissel
Nicholas Kissel

Nicholas Kissel is a Certified Management Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner. He is currently employed as Manager, Liquor Supply and Distribution at the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC). Prior to his current role, he has served as Manager, Gaming Revenue in the AGLC’s Corporate Services Division and as an Auditor within the AGLC’s Compliance and Social Responsibility Division. In addition to serving on the Beverage Container Management Board, he represents the AGLC on the Board of Directors for the Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation and the Alberta Beer Container Corporation. 

Prior to joining the AGLC in 2009, Nicholas spent nine years with PriceWaterhouseCoopers  LLP’s Financial Advisory Services Group focused primarily in the area of Business Interruption Insurance, Business Valuations and Economic Loss Quantification.  His work focused primarily on the transportation, oil field services and agribusiness sectors.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor of Management from the University of Lethbridge.

Marilyn Martin
Marilyn Martin

Marilyn Martin is a lawyer and has practiced law in Calgary, Alberta for over 35 years, the majority of that time as one of the founding Partners of the private practice law firm of Reesor Martin. Marilyn has extensive legal experience with private and publicly traded corporations, securities and compliance law, corporate/commercial law and corporate governance.

While practicing law, Marilyn gained 10 years of direct corporate and business experience in the beverage manufacturing industry, having served as CEO and President of a publicly traded corporation and its two subsidiaries that were collectively engaged in the businesses of producing and distributing bottled water and manufacturing plastic containers.

Marilyn’s keen interest in and commitment to environmental stewardship matters affecting Alberta leads her to continue her more than 25 years of service as Secretary, a Director and Legal Counsel for the Alberta Beverage Council Ltd. Marilyn also served on the Beverage Container Management Board as Secretary for five years and as a Director representing the beverage manufacturing sector for nine years commencing in 2005. During those nine years, Marilyn served on several board committees, including the Governance and Compensation Committee, the Policy Issues Task Force Committee, the Legal Services Selection Committee, the CSA Performance Criteria Task Force Committee, the Managing Director Selection Committee and the Handling Commissions Review Task Force Committee. Marilyn served as Chair of the Governance and Compensation Committee from 2008 until 2014 when her first term of service as a Director expired.

Marilyn was reappointed as a Director for the BCMB in June of 2016.

Cheryl McLaughlin
Cheryl McLaughlin

Cheryl McLaughlin is a Certified Risk Manager and holds the CRM-E designation for Enterprise Risk Management. She has been actively involved in the bottling industry for the past 18 years. She currently serves on several stewardship boards across Canada and is a past president of the Canadian Bottled Water Association.

Cheryl is currently the Director of Quality for Cott Corporation where she is responsible for Canadian quality, regulatory and environmental stewardship. Previously she has been responsible for quality programs throughout North America.

Brian Moore
Brian Moore

Brian is a leader in the western Canadian dairy industry, with more than 20 years experience managing complex dairy processing operations in Alberta and British Columbia. Throughout his career, Brian has overseen the manufacturing and packaging of most major product categories including fluid milk, cream, flavoured milks, mixes, yogurt, sour cream, cream cheese, ice cream, butter and cottage cheese.

Brian started working in the dairy industry in 1994 as a Power Engineer and Tradesman for Island Farms Dairies Cooperative in Victoria, BC. In 2002, he was promoted to the position of Maintenance Manager and in 2006 was named Plant Manager, one year after Island Farms was acquired by Agropur Cooperative of Longueuil, Québec.

In 2013, Brian was named Plant Manager of Agropur’s facility in Chilliwack, BC, where he remained until the facility was closed. In 2015 he relocated to Edmonton, Alberta as Plant Manager of Agropur’s Edmonton Milk plant.

Brian joined the Board of Directors of the Alberta Dairy Council in 2015, the Board of Directors of the BCMB in 2017 and serves as a member of the Audit Committee.

Usman Valiante
Usman Valiante

Usman is a Senior Policy Analyst with Corporate Policy Group LLP. He has 27 years experience in the management of commercial and public policy issues involving a mix of economics, environmental science, law, public policy, business strategy and politics.

Usman has been involved in the design and implementation of a number of extended producer responsibility based circular economy initiatives including that for printed paper and packaging in British Columbia and used tires in Ontario. He has also been a longstanding advisor to the Canadian brewing industry on circular economy matters.
